This year The History Channel (broadcast via US Cable & Satellite TV) has premiered a new weekly TV show called "Pickers" which follows two antique hunters as they drive around the rural routes of the US looking for (literally) "Barn Find" antiques and collectibles worthy of purchase for profitable re-sale.

They had previously come across a wide variety of rusted old American bikes from the 1930s through 1950s. And, this week they also found some quite rare bikes from the very early 1900s and even a rideable 1880s penny-farthing high wheel bike.

But, closer to my own heart, at one stop they also unearthed a mid 1970s Grand Record which the owner had only recently found discarded amidst someone's trash left at the roadside. The bike had cost him absolutely nothing, so he was perfectly content to part with it for only $30. They estimated resale value at $300 - presumably in mainly "as found" condition.

Nice finds are out there... unfortunately, not in MY neighborhood.
