Mark,

That's a great idea and close to what I did to my '71 Super Course. Have some bad phone pics here:

but you can still see the modifications. I installed a TA triple crankset, Suntour Vgt (or "x" can't remember) derailleurs and a new chain of course. It shifts very smooth, has huge range and beats the snot out of the old plastic Simplex junk that was on it originally. Got me up Mt. Rose pass surprisingly well on the 1st ride. Slack frame angles make it a very stable and comfortable riding bike. These are good frames and can be had very reasonably if you can find them - worth the upgrades IMHO.

A friend of mine is looking to acquire a bike for commuting and possibly loaded touring. Being that she's about 5'4", frames that size are difficult to find. Yesterday I ran into a circa 1970 (I'm guessing) Raleigh Super Course that at first glance at least seems to fit the bill. My thoughts are to install modern deraillers and compact double crankset to replace the original cottered steel set and call it done.

Any thoughts/suggestions, or any issues with threads etc... that I should be aware of?

Any assistance would be appreciated.
