Hi John, the Osgear was made in three and four speed, and possibly also five; some were certainly converted from four to five by drilling an extra hole in the lever. They also came in variants with and without a detensioner lever.

The main difference in operation between the two gears is that the Osgear has an indexed lever, whereas, if you can remember back to the Triassic (!), the Ace has a normal small diameter Cyclo derailleur lever. I've never used an Ace, but I'm told that they're inferior in operation to the Osgear.

> shown only a three speed that I assume is 1/8"pitch. Constrictor Osgear, per the Classic Lightweights. Brit site shows Osgear in a 4 speed, It also states that Constrictor has secured the sole British rights to market this device. So "ACE and "OSGEAR" appear to be the same in principal The Osgear been ALL duraluminnnn and ONLY! 12 1/2 ozs, It does NOT appear that the "Osgear" was ever made for a three speed? The Early 40s Raleigh that my Uncle Tom converted from a Sturmey 3sp to a Cyclo Ace 3 speed for me to RACE! on was NOTHING but a Pain in the arse, Should have stuck with the Sturmey!
