Ben, I did this exact same modification, when attempting to get a c. 1974 Masi as close to period correct as possible, even though it had been upgraded to braze-on derailleur tab, under b.b. cable routing, etc. Here's a pic ... and be sure to click on the pic to see close-up (it's a huge Ken Toda @ Cirque image).

I think it worked just fine in front, but I had problems getting the shifting dialed in just right in the back. Don't know if it was linked or not, but most felt the problem was associated with the rear changer and set-up there. The frame has been to California, and then came back to another list member, not more than 4 miles from me! Perhaps Marcus will chime in if he reads this thread, and has assembled the bike. My understanding is that if you are using a pre-CPSC Record spindle with Record cranks, then this modification should work.

Has anyone tried converting a mid 70s Campy Record front derailleur to an early 80s braze on mount? I did & the pivot arm is almost rubbing on the outer limit screw. I think it will work but wonder if anyone has experience with this? Remember the Frankenbike at ebay a while back that was an Orange Schwinn Paramount from '73 with updates from the early 80s - fastback seatstays, cable routing in the top tube & braze on mounts. Well the buyer found me & asked for a Campy derailleur from the 70s with a braze mount. This is what i came up with.
