John,

The Super Record headset is indeed different from Nuovo Record.

Nuovo is all steel. SR is lighter, and has alloy (aluminum) outer cups with pressed in steel races, alloy washer, and alloy top nut, with steel crown and upper races. The SR upper race is also drilled out on it's shoulders for weight reduction. Both headsets use 3/16 bearings.

Generally, Nuovo Record headsets seem to last longer than SR - all things being equal. In particular, SR seems to develop pits and brinelling in the lower cup faster than NR, assuming both are properly installed and maintained.
