Well except this bike of course has the French language 531 decal, and I'm not sure the French and English versions were always introduced at exactly the same time.  If not, one assumes the English version came out first, so maybe the shifts might have occurred a yaer later for the French versions. In any case the Peugeot decals on this bike are definitely mid 70's, so 1974-1976 is a good guess,

BTW, speaking of French 531 decals, the use of these usually implied not just a French made bike, but also use of metric gauge 531.  Does anyone know of exceptions to this, where the English decal was used on bikes with metric tubesets or vice versa?  This may have most likely occurred with Spanish, Swiss or Belgian bikes, made in non-French speaking or only partially French speaking countries that often did use the metric tubesets.  I think the smaller number of 531 bikes from Germany and Austria and the few 531 bikes from Italy usually had English decals, but I don't know if that meant they were Imperial gauge tubesets.

One other interesting case was that of 753.  According to Mike Mullett, 753 was only available in metric gauge for the first couple of years, and the first 753 Raleigh Team Pros built at Ilkston used metric 753 tubesets.  Indeed, this is how my Team Pro was ID'ed as 753, since it had a smaller seatpost corresponding to a metric seattube.  Was the decal on these metric 753 Team Pros in French or English?

If we assume the paint is original, the bike could be no earlier than 1974 (which is when those 531 decals - the "Reynolds Tube Co. LTD" gold band decals - in english - were used for the first time.)

Those decals were only used in 1974, and 1975.  After 1975, the Reynolds 531 brand was trademarked and an (R) appeared after the '531', and in 1976/77 the gold band changed to (TI) Reynolds Limited However, sometimes earlier decals are installed in later years.

So I think this bike is either 1974, 1975, or perhaps 1976 with an old decal affixed.
