We didn't give much thought to hydration in the 70's. Even on long rides of 100 miles one bottle was it and the bottles were smaller then. Nor did we often carry much in the way of snacks. Of course, back then every gas station (of which there were many) had a FREE drinking fountain, FREE air and a good snack could be had for less than $.50.
