Don,

It's just a tiny dent in the chainstay. It's not serious; rub a little dirt on it Johnny, and walk it off.

One thing about this stuff, and many, many, hobbies and collections; not every project ends up being "worth" what one pays for the objects. Just to care enough about the history and purpose of the object to invest money and time into saving it from an uncertain fate is a duty that many people take on gladly. It's an honor and a service to future generations that we preserve these old bikes. They can last several more generations with the proper care.

I personally never look at the dollars and cents of owning any bike. I either want it and have the means to get it, or I don't. I think in the long run, it all comes out pretty even. We're only temporary custodians of the stuff anyway. Most of it is going to outlast us by a long time. The more we save now, the better. Eventually the supply of the old stuff will be gone and the current masterpieces will become highly collectible.

I'm glad there are people out there sweet on the Cinelli. It could be built up as is, or restored. Just think of how many vintage car restorations cost way more than the car could ever be sold for. They are thousands, or even tens of thousands, of dollars upside down in their hobbies. These old bikes are no big deal at all. Heck, just get a paper route after work and I'd bet most people could afford some cool bikes.

http://ebay.com/<blah>

Pardon my error, it's a 58cm c-t frameset, not 57 c-t. It looks like this vintage cinelli is going to sell for an astonishing amount of money, the bidding has risen to ~$1800 with 2 days left to go. I must say, I am impressed with the love this bike is being shown on Ebay!

Would this qualify for a "yearly high price" on the CR website?

Does someone know what could cause that sort of damage to the left chainstay?
