I wouldn't insist on open hearth brazing, but settle for a competent repair. I don't think any of the US builder bothers with open hearth, even if they were originally trained in the traditional British way (Doug Fattic?).

And depending on the damage it may be possible to pull the dent out and fill the spot without replacing the tube. This also depends on the repaint you want to do -- mvg
