RE: 'One more Kilometre and We're in the Showers'

Very sincere thanks for the specific book pointer. I found one "as new" hardbound copy on abebooks.com. (gone now, thanks). 12 more copies in various condition are still available. There are approx 10 copies listed in paperback on amazon.com and amazon.co.uk through third party sellers.

All this talk of Cycling and Cyclists in the UK brought to mind a nice Book  Alfredo Marcantonio (you still out there in CR land?)sent to me after the 2007 edition of L'EROICA. One more Kilometre and We're in the Showers' by Tim Hilton its full of anecdotes and observations of the European cycling scene  and in particular what it was like to be a Cyclist in the UK during the 1950s (he feels this was the Golden Age of Cycling). Leaguers, Unionists and outlaw Bikers , Vegetarians vs Carnivores its all there. I have started to reread it. Anyway a great first person account that I highly recommend.
