Subject: [CR] VAR Chain Ring Tool Follow-Up

Ahoy ! Background: I have need of a two-prong chain ring tool for a TA crank. To my knowledge, this tool is discontinued by VAR.

I was provided information from several sources that the current three-prong VAR tool VR-PE35300 VAR Chain ring bolt tool will work if the center prong is removed thereby making it a two-prong.

Nope - won't work that simply. Quelle, surprise, n'est pas ?

The current VAR tool is too thick for the chain ring bolt slots and must be thinned to fit. The width is spot-on.

To my thinking, I could have done the same to the Shimano or Campag tool: that is: remove the center prong and thinned the tool.

I did not choose to modify a screw driver because a screw driver is tapered and, I think, the chain ring bolts are better serviced by a parallel bit.

Happy chain ring changing. Double or treble bob.
