I'm about 9/10ths sure the Rodriguez was made by Tonard Brazing of London in about 1977-79. R+E Cycles (Rodriguez & Erickson) imported a batch of Tonards (both road and track), a few dozen I'd say, well under a hundred. They brought them in unpainted and finished them in-house. I started there in '79 and they already had them, so my best guess is '78. I don't recall them getting any more batches in after I arrived, but I might not remember well enough to say for sure, so this might also be early-80s.
Angel Rodriguez did also build a few frames himself, and may have even built this track frame. The photos aren't good enough for me to be 100% sure -- but close enough, I'll put money on Tonard.
That's not a bad thing, they were well designed and well made. I think I have heard that Tonards mostly made "house label" frames like this that were sold with other people's decals on 'em. Still they took evident pride in doing a good job. I'd rate 'em as equal to or better than most of the English semi-production frames of the era, that made it to the States anyway: Holdsworth Bob Jackson etc.
