Matthew Bowne's lament about the impossibility of satisfying the lust to own a pair of "Con Denti" Campagnolo pedals was lovely (not repeated here). It strikes a chord:

Being wide of foot, track pedals were never my thing (In the day, we either beat down the quill on road pedals for extra support, or rode with Lyotard Berthets and lots of overhang). But I really, really wanted a set of Phil pedals for the longest time. An incredibly elegant design based on light machining of a single extrusion. And shall we say, of "distinctive" appearance, with the integrated "CHP" (California Highway Patrol) reflector. I finally got a set, and display them on my Phil-hub-equipped Hetchins touring sometimes. But, maybe it would have been better to still be searching: it's not so much fun to attain the object of your desire, only to find that you can't stand actually using it. I don't find the Phils comfortable. :-(

Besides, Mother always taught that it was better to have some unfullfilled wishes as you go through life. Better a small obsession than a large one, eh?
