Subject: [CR] Maxi-Ebay find

Dear listers,

I just returned from a drive to South Yorkshire where I picked up a POS French gas-pipe special with, of all things, a lovely set of Maxi-car Type 3 hubs on mismatched Mavic clincher rims. I would say from their appearance they are mid-1960s and hardly used. The roll like new. It's not clear how they ended up on this bike, but I was able to get them without hauling the bike out of the man's garage, too. This the first set of Maxi-car hubs I've held in person and was wondering if the legacy was earned. They are indeed lovely, and the early drilled version of the large flange hubs really shows the love that went into them. They look machine-age and modern all at once with their red seals and hand-worked shells.

So, I want to clean them, etc., and am wondering, should I replace the rims or not? I don't even know what I'm going to do with them, but they are gorgeous, and I'm thinking if I could hunt down an appropriate polished clincher rim, I might have to go out and find a Singer frame or something to do them justice. Rim suggestions? They are 36 hole hubs, btw.

Thanks
