What can I say? Am starting in on the re-do of a very cool, nervex-lugged '63 Masi Special I picked up some months ago. Masi-istas will recall the CR list questions, discussions, and couple of diatribes withOUT researching the archives. Thank goodness for that chatter, the bike should have sold to someone else for a LOT more money (chickens!)

Am hoping for insight from the experts. I have on hand most of the bits to complete this bike, thank goodness its old italian as the checkered hard-ridden history makes it more a candidate for an "as original" respray rather than the more popular over-the-top finishing...PLUS its a lot easier to source parts for an old rider if they won't look...well...old when mounted on the cleaned-up frameset.

Does anyone anywhere know of a source for non-vinyl "dry-fix" or "varnish-fix" transfers for this period Masi Special? It'd seem a pity to mount vinyl repops on a bike I'd like to look as close to original (but clean) as possible, and I have NO INTEREST in burying vinyl repop transfers under clearcoat. Not that those don't haver their place, I just don't want them on this bike. ANYone?

I am also looking for advice from those who actually rode back then (c.1963) : Oh, ancient ones....what sort of sewups ("good ones") were used in the early to mid-60's?

t.i.a. for discussion
