Peugeot frames from certain years have decals stating they are "bonderized" which means a phosphate treatment, likely zinc phosphate, was applied to help with rust. It would seem likely that other frames had phosphate and chromate treatments.

To the listmeister:

I am happy that searching many gigabytes of emails in my accounts for the word "poop-loads" turns up (in seconds) just one mention; but I am chagrined at the location, not to mention the source!!. Who knows what attention this may draw, because search engines, like rust, never sleep(s). <smile>

(No, Dale was not a creep for calling attention to the difference between the text and the photo. There is real and incipient bubbling, not just chipping.)

But, seriously, and on topic: Have bike frames, whether fine crafted or assembly-line brazed, ever been the beneficiaries of serious anti-corrosion treatment? Besides the use of stainless steel, and titanium.
