Jon,

That's correct. I personally have been using all four on many of my lugs designs since the early to mid 70's. I like a spade in the top head lug, a club in the bottom head lug, a heart in the top of the seat lug, and a diamond on the seat tube tang of the seat lug. I put whatever in BB shell sockets and I have put one of each on the sides of the head lugs. They work almost anywhere.

Brian, If spades are natural - I guess you could say so are hearts and diamonds! I'm sure you will have plenty of examples on the other side of DeRosa and Pogliaghi.

I have a $10 (via paypal) reward for the first photo of a known PX-10 with a cutout lug window in the bottom bracket.

Manuel,

That is in fact correct. I'm pretty sure the spade cutout will be found on any number of "not-so-well-known" frames both before and since Mario. I myself have been cutting spades in lugs and BB shells since 1974. It's a common and natural thing to cut into a lugs.

AFAIK, Peter Johnsoncut the ace of spades into his lugsbefore Confente. Emanuel Lowi Montreal, Quebec
