I've heard similar comments regarding "aero" style brake cable routing with non-aero intended brake levers levers.  My main concern was whether it would be considered "period correct". Thanks for the information! Steve Whitting

I agree with Greg. The aero modification may look "clean", but it makes the brakes much harder to adjust and use. Pulling the lever deflects the cable inside the lever instead of pulling it down, so you get less cable taken up when you use the brakes.
