Subject: [CR] Skid Lid anyone?

I remember the Skid Lid. What a product name! One would think the name alone enough to have doomed it. To me, "helmet" says "protection", but "Skid Lid" says "wreck". Make that "nasty wreck". Oh well, those were giddy times and it probably sounded cool back then. No doubt it gave better protection than a leather hairnet or painter's cap. On the other hand it may have given a false sense of security to the wearer.

I unearthed the following nuggets from the CR archives: It seems the Brancale helmet is often mentioned in this context. Dale of the List said it was affectionately known as the "sweat bucket". David Feldman said "Brancale" should be pronounced "Brain-kill". I got a chuckle out of this.
