I was cleaning out some stuff today and found a box of old bike magazines. The March 1982 issue was on top, so I brought it into the house. It had some interesting ads and reviews. First, there were advertisements from Brian Baylis, Richard Sachs, and Bruce Gordon. Then, a review of the Specialized Allez road racing bike showed a Japanese made frame that isn't clear enough to say whether it was 3Rensho or not, but the fork does look to me like it has the characteristic crown offset. The components on the Allez surprised me. Campagnolo Super Record, Mavic SSC rims, Clement Criterium Seta tires. $1395 price for the complete bike. Clement has a full page ad with eleven different tires shown and two others mentioned. Nisi has a small ad with weights for Sludi, Solidal, Contach, Ekip, and Laser rims. Finally, there is an ad for a sealed bearing bottom bracket called Nadax, by Specialized. I don't recall ever seeing one before. Frank Berto reviews freewheels and the "new
" cassettes. He makes an interesting comment about the Campagnolo alloy freehweel. He highlights that they are only for racing and mentions the need to keep the bearings super clean as they have very tight tolerances. Finally, a full page ad from Selle San Marco shows pictures of four models of Concor saddles--Supercorsa, Max, Junior, and SL. All except the Max are available in white, black, blue, red, and brown.
