Over the years WD 40 has been changed but is still basically Stoddard Solvent. 50 years ago it was big stuff but as a Penetrant it has been superseded by many other products. Environmental considerations have changed most every item that we might use to degrease a part. Ultrasonic Cleaners do a nice job and are available at Harbor Freight for less than $100. A CR favorite is your Dishwasher but it would take a very understanding Partner to actually use it for degreasing old parts. I always recommend you think long and hard before using Flammable chemicals for cleaning as you are apt to burn down your house or garage.
