I've decided to move on from my early 1970s Alex Singer project, to different things -- space (and lack of time) moves all things. Being that it's winter, I figure this is a good time to offer the bike to the group and see if there might be interest in taking on a bit of work.

The bike is as follows:

Alex Singer (SN 16.942) touring bike, front and rear racks, decaleur and fenders with integrated front and rear lighting and sidewall dynamo. Measures 59cm c-c seat, 56.5cm c-c top

Includes Alex Singer chromed stem and Alex Singer bottom bracket (I have fresh bearings for replacement of appropriate size, as the existing bearings feel poor) as well as wired fenders for integrated headlight (on front rack) and integrated rear light on NDS chainstay.

Components are as follows: Campagnolo Rally RD (Bullseye pulleys) and Record FD. Campagnolo bar-end shifters. Ideale #90 saddle in good, firm condition with Alex Singer seatpost and hidden quill expander. Stronglight triple crankset. Mafac Competition brakes and levers. Some form of rando bars I'm not sure of, my apologies!

The bike DOES NOT currently have a wheelset on it. I have a pair of good early 70s Maxi-Cars and a pair of polished NOS Rigida clinchers to match, as well as a NOS Suntour 5-spd freewheel and Wipperman chain of appropriate vintage. No tires, but all will be included in the sale.

The paint is faded but quite good overall in a nice light blue (similar to the 1970s Schwinn Opaque Blue), chrome on the racks is poor, but the racks should be able to be rechromed and brought up to appropriate fettle. The fenders are in reasonably good shape for 40+ years old, and still have the existing wiring built in.

This should make a wonderful rider (and showable bike) with a bit of work, but I lack the energy to finalize it, and hope someone else can take it on. I'm going to take some better pictures this afternoon, but wanted to put it out there and gauge interest.

I would like $3500 for the bike and all parts to get her built back up. I believe this is fairly reasonable considering the overall market for Singers and the current state of the bike, but if I'm wrong please let me know. I would STRONGLY prefer to meet in person somewhere in the northeast US (I'm in NYC but I'm willing to drive within reasonable difference to meet people partway if serious), but we can discuss shipping if need be. I'm nervous about causing any injury to the bike through shipping, hence my reticence, but we can work something out if desired.

I will be at the Westminster, MD swap in a few weeks as well, if a meet there would be preferable.

I leave you with this picture alone for now, and will provide further photographs on request. Please contact me if you feel that I've missed any details!
