Subject: [CR] What Are You Riding

For the past year my daily commuter has been a Dave Moulton Fuso dating from 1987. It had been in a garage for several years and when it came to my bike shed it had all original components. Shimano 600 groupo with Modolo stem and handlbars. The paint is in very good condition. It could probably qualify as a wall hanger, but I have strong feelings that bikes are to be used and if they are not serving the purpose of giving utility and pleasure then their full value is not appreciated. I am in the process of restoring a similar vintage Davidson Impulse using Campagnolo SR and NR bits to put it back on the road. I also have my first "good" bike --- an early 80's Motobacane Super Companion which has undergone severe modification by Bill Holland --- pump peg, water bottle bosses, bosses on the seat stays for a rear rack. Bill also created a triple out of a Campagnolo SR double --- he made a jig that allowed positioning of holes to permit the use of a TA 36 inner ring. Lots of San Diego touring cyclists had him do that conversion in the '80s. The bike is fitted with fenders and sees use when it rains here in San Diego --- that is to say it hangs in anticipation in the shed.
