Pic of the Day, 6 February 2011 Apo's Third Fork Blade

Some fotos can at first be somewhat confusing, especially if you've already spent a few hours perusing pics and dissecting details. This image is a good example. July 16th, 1949, 15th stage of the Tour de France. With the Pyrenes behind them, and the Alps yet to come, three of the star climbers enjoy a tourist-pace transition stage from Marseille to Cannes. From left to right: Apo Lazarides, great climbing hope of the French National Team; Jean Robic, team leader of Ouest-Nord and 10th on G.C.; and Fausto Coppi, co-leader of the Italian National Team., currently 9th on G.C. but still over 14 minutes behind the Yellow Jersey of Fiorenzo Magni.

Note the interesting decals on the seattube of Apo's bike, and the rear brake mounted opposite of normal.

Note also the three fork blades on Apo's bike, and has Robic lost the lower half of his right leg???
