Ha-ha! An excellent point, Peter. I suppose I should have mentioned one other aspect, but didn't for fear of modern toilet paper being off-topic - it only works with vintage French 107mm (or narrower) TP rolls. These typically unroll from the bottom side, as many of you likely know. I bought up all the NOS rolls I could find, but they're long gone now. The only brand I have had luck with is off-topic Cottonelle Ultra, while other modern brands tend to rub on the fork blades until you get down to about halfway through the roll. YMMV.

As for bidets - the best invention in the world after the bicycle! And you may be on to something there. I had one when I lived in Buenos Aires and it was surely missed once I was back stateside. At first I thought it was just a fountain for entertainment or in case the sink was too far away and one got thirsty, but once I figured it out, I was awestruck by the idea's brilliance. Vive la France!

Cheers,

Paul

Nice, Paul, but you missed a bet by not paying homage to the excentricities of French bicycles by ensuring this only took non-standard, obscure and otherwise hard to get width toilet rolls. Which is probably why the French invented the bidet in the first place, no?
