Kevin,
I've always put them them from the back side of the body. Warm water and soap work well, heavy on the soap, or, you might try some good Italian Extra Virgin olive oil, to keep things on topic.
By "Super Racer" we all presume you mean Super Record, eh? The "from the rear" slide seems to me to be the path of least resistance.
(p.s. your tire savers are on their way. Thanks!)

\r?\n> Subject: [CR] Installing Campy brake hoods

\r?\n> Greetings.
\r?\n> I have a pair of Campagnolo Super Racer brakes and a pair
\r?\n> of original
\r?\n> Campagnolo hoods, but can't figure out how to put one on
\r?\n> the other without
\r?\n> the risk of tearing the latter. What's the best way
\r?\n> of installing these
\r?\n> hoods?
\r?\n> Thanks,
\r?\n>
