No offense at all - just the suggestion of modifying a quality original part is not necessary when all you have to really do is call around to non-chain LBS's and ask. There are lots of older well used Phil Wood hubs and hub parts laying around - just call around and ask.

Bicycle Express here in San Jose might have what you need or Slough's or Shaw's.

Three suggestions for the South Bay alone here in CA.

Also, place an "item wanted" ad in Craigslist. For example, I currently have one ad in place for an off-topic 1" x 110mm x 26.0 1" threadless Salsa, Ritchey, 3t or Deda stem.
