I sold Super Record parts from the first available batch that came into the USA. The head set washer looked just like the Record one but alloy. I remember that the top nut was slightly different, I also remember that the pre introduction info showed the headset as black, is my memory correct on this? Also, on the SR first seat post, the very first ones only came in a shorter length. The idea here being if the frame was properly fitted then you don't need an extra amount of seat post sticking in the frame.

I had pretty good connections at Olympic Development and tried very hard to get some of the thing shown in the first catalog. Ti axles, Ti drop outs, black parts never showed up here. I don't have any of this early literature anymore, only a 1980 press kit that I am going to put on eBay soon.

Was the elaborate alloy spacer found on the SR headset a standard feature from the start?
