Great Valentine's Day stories, Guys.

The only charming and romantic Valentine story I can remember after spending 25 years as sweeties with Peter is actually our very first Valentine's Day.

The previous summer, Peter took me on our first big date, the Davis, California "Heart of California" Fourth of July criterium bike race, which he won. First prize was a brand new Peugeot PX-10, in my size (big)! So, I started riding with Peter, on casual afternoon rides through Portola Valley and Woodside, Los Altos Hills, and an occasional climb up to Skyline Blvd. through the redwood forests. It was all good, but cycling was difficult in running shoes. The shoes I'd wear would always get hung up on the Christophe toe clips and straps. I would get frustrated.

Valentine's Day 1979 and imagine my delight upon opening the shoebox and finding my very first pair of Detto Pietro black leather cycling shoes! I knew it was true love. The relationship was cemented at that point, and after he presented me with my first pair of Kucharik Helenca black shorts with real chamois did I know I'd spend the rest of my life with this guy.

Happy Valentine's Day to all my friends on the Classic Rendezvous list....and a big hug for Dale.
