I am so terribly sorry to learn that Chris has passed on. He was such a delight. I have fond memories of drinking Sweet Wheat Ale with him at the Spring Garden brewery at Cirques past. He was one of the first of my Cirque buddies.
Does anyone else remember the Meral? It had gone through a couple of hands and had been stripped of all of its hardware before Larry O. pressed it into my hands at the end of Cirque 2000. It sat on my bookshelf, a bare frameset, until Chris emailed me about it, and I was delighted to send it on its way. It was revealing that Chris took this castoff, saw what it could be, built it up beautifully, and rode it at Cirque '01. I thought his use of argyle knee socks that matched the bike was the perfect touch.
He was such a gentleman, such a lovely, well-rounded guy. I had several offlist email and phone conversations with him through the years. I'm sorry I didn't realize his participation had tapered off, and I'm sorrier still that I won't get to buy him a Sweet Wheat ale any time soon.
