Cool link Roy. Speaking of wood rims and a winter project...

Some of you know of my acquiring a Torpado from Italy with a full Campagnolo 50th Anniversary gruppo. The bike was built special for an exectutive of Torpado, and was originally equipped with wood tubular rims on the Campy 50th hubs. The exec. changed the rims out for a pair of aluminum Nisi's (I think). Kindly enough, the seller of this bike included the wood rims in the sale.

I wonder if any of you have heard of this rim, and what limits there might be to its use. Given what I read at Roy's link about the sidewalls having issues with braking, I'm wondering if it is wise for me to have the wheels rebuilt back to original again, or not The bike will not be a regular rider for me, as it is a "show bike", but I would like to take it out time and again for perfect day recovery rides. I'm also interested however, in returning the bike to the way the loving hands at Torpado intended it to be for one of their chiefs.

The rims look like oak or hickory. They have a clear decal, with a comparatively large "cbl" in green, white and red lower case lettering, and a smaller "BRUSATI" next to it, with "LIMBIATE - ITALY" underneath, all in blue. It also has a logo of a blue wheel with red "rays" radiating from it in a spinning pattern like spokes from a hub.

Any I.D.s? Any thoughts? Any experiences with "modern" wood rims? I don't really need "special" tubbys to fit these, do I?

Thanks very much...
