My experience is that the Shimano 600 is quite nice but the Superbe is, well, superb! And yes, Suntour did make a Superbe seat post - they looked very similar to a 1st gen Campagnolo Super Record seat post i.e. fluted, two bolt and are hard to come by, especially in 27.2. The next version, called the Superbe Pro was quite different and they are frequently on eBay.
