"Grips are not gum brake lever hoods! The hood's shape is *much* more complex. The raw materials are different. Don't assume anything; get a valid quote from a supplier that can actually do what you want and has a track record of doing it properly."

Yikes... people! I didn't say that. I simply said unlike most of you here, I've already DONE this. Did the research. Found the manufacturer. Paid the money. Got the goods. Did it. I was simply telling you what I paid for MY project. And told you I got the same $2500 estimate from US based manufacturers. So maybe THEY think a grip is the same as a hood. Maybe it is, I am not an engineer. Then again, no one here (to my knowledge) has actually done this. So take one of these sodding hoods and put it in an envelope and mail it to Lee-Healey (or someone) and get a quote. All this back and forth and armchair engineering gets us precisely nowhere.

The only assuming I am doing with this is that I am not going to do anything again with repro bicycle anything. Again, based on my having actually done it. And losing money. If others want to carry on, great. And again, I'd be happy to supply the details for Lee-Healey.

By the way, I ride "on the drops" and never touch those bloody brown hoods anyway...
