What's wrong with helping the poor bike shop owner who invested in a Phil Wood spoke threading machine earn a return on his investment? In northern Vermont, that would be Winooski Bike Shop. I bet that most of the folks who bought these machines haven't made their money back when you figure in cost of spokes, time and the cost of replacement dies.

\r?\n> Subject: [CR]Spoke threading

\r?\n>

\r?\n> Dear Group:

\r?\n> I have been thinking about this problem for a while. It has ocurred =

\r?\n> to

\r?\n> me that it should be possible to buy a spoke thread die, with the =

\r?\n> correct

\r?\n> threading that can be used to do my own spoke threading. Here is the

\r?\n> problem. Occasionally, I don't have the correct spoke on hand and I can =

\r?\n> see

\r?\n> that it would be nice to add a few threads to a spoke that is a tad =

\r?\n> long,

\r?\n> for example. I don't need a fancy $3000 Phil Wood spoke threader, =

\r?\n> because I

\r?\n> am not in a hurry. I have always thought about going to a place that =

\r?\n> sells

\r?\n> taps and dies to see if I could find the right size, but have never made =

\r?\n> it

\r?\n> around to finding one. So my question to the group, is whether someone =

\r?\n> has

\r?\n> tried this trick, or knows if a thread die is available somewhere? I =

\r?\n> bought

\r?\n> a spoke threader on eBay last year for $75, but it was worn out and =

\r?\n> doesn't

\r?\n> work. I think it would be a great solution to my spoke needs, because I =

\r?\n> find

\r?\n> some of the bike stores are not always willing to sell individual =

\r?\n> spokes,

\r?\n> because they say they don't want to break up their sets. Any help would =

\r?\n> be

\r?\n> appreciated.

\r?\n>

\r?\n> Thanks,

\r?\n>
