For all CR list members: try Tim Krabbe: The Rider (http://www.bloomsburyusa.com/catalogue/details2.asp?type=18&page=2&isbn =1582342032&cf=0)

Very good reading stuff. Captures it all. Although not in one word.

Stuart Tallack asks (clipped): "What a pity cycling has never inspired a writer as hunting inspired Robert Smith Surtees. H.G.Wells got close. Any others?"

An excellent book on cycling by an excellent author: "Need for the Bike" by Paul Fournel. Gets very close to what we're trying to capture with Dale's one-word assignment, too.

Very, very good English translation (from the French). Available in paperback on Amazon, barnesandnoble.com, etc.

Probably been mentioned on the list before...
