Subject: [CR]Frame repair - replacmeent of down and top tubes.

As Brian has already pointed out, this type of front-end replacement can be very time consuming and therefore expensive, involving as they do, the additional cost of a respray. Over here in the UK there are several builders who will not be bothered with the repair.

It can be tedious and very painstaking work pulling out crumpled tubes, particularly if the lugs are pressed steel rather than investment cast ones.

I prefer to replace the whole front end ie top, head, and down tube at one operation. This is a very time and labour efficient way of doing the repair. There is one big HOWEVER... it depends on a matching pair of head-lugs being available. With Prugnat and Bocama there was usually no problem.as these were normally readily available and relatively cheap..and a length of head tube isn't too expensive.

Just a thought that's all
