I primarily use this list instead of contributing and Doug reminded me of how much I appreciate the email characters who have helped me out over the years, for parts, for information, and for the simple joy of finding out stuff. Just within the last year I got a driver for my '36 S-A TF hub (from Doug as a matter of fact), and a spring for it too (but I can't remember from whom). A while back Charlie Young gave me a GB brake lever out of the kindness of his heart so I could have something close to matching for a project. I recently went on a Quixote-like quest in order to identify the lugs on my custom '52 Viking Path. It was to no avail, but not because of the lack of effort from such gems as Bob Reid, Toni T., and Mick Butler. It was more fun just having them involved in the search than the search itself. I still want to know what those cockamamey lugs are though.
And then there are the priceless websites who help in the searches and also help alleviate my bouts of exhaustion when all I want to do is sit and stare. In my case recently, Joel's Taylor site, Bob's Flying Scot, Marks catalogues, and of course Dale's.
In all my dealings with members I've only been stiffed once and that was from an individual who only uses the list to occasionally out his ebay stuff. Decided not to pursue that one and bit the bullet. So Ray, we've experienced what my statistics prof would call a "low probability event." Given the volume of on and off list exchanges I'd say we're pretty lucky.
Is this an "attaboy"? Sheesh, how embarrassing.
