Like Deda, Veloflex and Gommitalia have clinchers that come close to tubulars, at least in appearance: black treads, gum sidewalls. I especially like the Veloflex Master in 22 mm. Very supple at high pressures, very light, durable and puncture resistant.

FYI:
I have been ruining the Deda rubber for a bit and the make a very suitable ( open) clincher, as well as vintage style tubular. Both have provided a great ride and durability.

I use Michelin BibSports on several of my bikes, but they're all old stock from over 20 years ago. Are they still available? I also have a set of 700x18mm Michelin HiLite SuperComp slicks I picked up on closeout someplace many years ago and wish I could find more.
Re: 27" tires... Continental makes a nice 27x1-1/8" gumwall tire that's fairly cheap and durable.
