II remember the Stetina brothers, Wayne & Dale, being sponsored by Follis in 1973 or thereabouts. They showed up at my Carolina Cup rrace with their dad, Ray, driving the Ark, a huge (or it seemed so then) self propelled camping vehicle. They had Follis bikes with all sorts of then-rarely-seen trick components; titanium bits by Moroni, etc. It was unusual to see top riders risking possible failure with super light one-off components so we were in awe... Aftert the race (rainy) they got stuck in the mud and had to get towed onto pavement to drive home...

The Follis importer was a west coast company and was also the early distributor for Teledyne, so that bike at the American Cyclery is possibly not rebadge at all.

Dear List:

I just won a French Follis racing frame from the early 70's or so on eBay. A look through the archives indicates that Follis was best known for their touring frames and tandems. Does anyone have any information about a Follis racing program? Did they sponsor or supply any significant teams? I've seen some references to Follis sponsoring American riders: San Francisco Cyclery had or has a rebadged Teledyne Titan/Follis supposedly ridden by pioneering American J. Boyer during his American phase before he traveled to Europe. Presumably then someone in the US imported Follis frames at one time. No doubt this is one of them.

On a different front, does anyone have closeups of the frame graphics? The CR pics are a bit too small for a good look. Anyone know if there's a commercial supply for vintage transfers? Lloyds and the usual sources don't list them. Follis is still in business in France, but I would doubt they still supply vintage transfers.

Thanks for any info.
