Subject: [CR]Simplex demultiplicator; Simpson, Merckx

I'm putting together a 1960's Peugeot PX-10 as ridden by Tom Simpson and Eddy Merckx when they rode for he Peugeot team. I have photos of both of them riding with bar end shifters, which I would like to put on this bike. I also have a Simplex demultiplicator to go with these shifters. I looked back at the CR archives and Google, and there was every opinion as to just what these are supposed to do and whether they are worth putting on a bike. One person said they are intended only for tandems. Would demultiplicators have been around in the years Simpson and Merckx rode for Peugeot, and would they likely have used them?
Thanks.
