Adding to what others have already said ...

Go to http://bikeville.com/frames.html and scroll down to the "Elite Headlamp" for an example of the type of light typically fitted to these brackets, and scroll further down to see examples of the brackets fitted to the headset (commonly seen on Raleigh three-speeds, etc.) and the forks - the right fork-leg, of course, as us Limeys ride on the left!

Examples up on eBay right now:

- item#6608603030 at http://ebay.com/<blah>

- item# 6608396515 at http://ebay.com/<blah>

But beware that these two lamps probably use the old three-volt bicycle battery, not two D-cells (IE: U2s to us Brits of a certain age), rarer than hens teeth or rocking-horse s*** nowadays?

Pifco made an adaptor, which took a couple of C-cells I believe, to fit in their (somewhat similar) lamps in the 1970s - once again I'm sure that this is an item that is now very hard to find?

See http://homepage.ntlworld.com/catfoodrob/choppers/mechanic/pifcolamp.html for a (poor) picture of an Ever Ready bicycle battery and a write-up of how the guy built an adpator, as well as images of Pifco's lamp and their C-cell carrier.

Ever Ready made & sold the Berec (plastic) lamp that Forbes mentions in the UK in the 1970s (and I still have ours, along with the rear lamp), but I don't know who was selling who's lamps under license.
