Mike raises an interesting point that may or may not be worth trying with a FedEx claim, but I personally wouldn't want to rely on it. Suspect that "insurance" type claims against an old item would assess depreciation, thus decreasing the value against a new replacement.
Your luck may hinge on who you speak to at FedEx and how strongly you do so. Their liability/limitation is pretty clear about their financial responsibility, but not very clear about what constitutes antique/vintage/collectable items.
Guess that one could always claim that the item was not one of these antique/vintage/collectable items, but I always prefer to be honest and not jeopardize committing what may be perceived as fraud.
As for questions regarding FedEx shipping specifics, I once again suggest reading all the fine detail and/or discussing with a FedEx representative prior to shipment. I do not profess to be the expert on FedEx shipping details, but only wanted to relay my personal experience with a recent claim.
