I would say preserve it, don't "restore" it, because if restored, it will b e just another one of many shiny old bikes, whereas bikes in their original , albeit worn, finish are much rarer, and you preserve the character and in tegrity of the machine and its history. It acquired that wear and tear in the adventures it shartedx with its owner.

An added bonus is that you won't have to spend a fortune finding NOS parts to go with the shiny new finish!

AND you can use it without worrying about the odd additional chip or scratc h.
