If I ever see any indication of grease hardening, changing consistency or otherwise functioning at less than full strength, I will repack the hubs. What has been very consistent over the years is Phil Wood grease in the port, Phil Wood grease out the ends of the hub and never a feeling of the least amount of grit in the bearings. In thoery, there may be any number of things wrong with it. In my decades of practice, I have yet to experience any downside except a little grease on the outside of the hub and the fork ends if I wait too long to clean it off.
