...........Major Taylor enjoyed the equivalent of "superstar" celebrity over here in Europe at the beginning of the 20th century and was feted everywhere that he raced, especially in Paris and London to the point that he became a household name, his ventures "down under" in Australia also received similar acclaim, indeed not so long ago an excellent Aussie TV film was made about his early life and in particular his winning exploits in Australia......the title I believe was called "Tracks of Glory" and it's still doing the rounds on cable tv occasionally.
