As I bike shop guy in those years, I always loved the Weinmann's center-pulls because they were simplest of all calipers to set up and maintain. You moved the pad up and down the slot, set the cable in the carrier and that was it. It was especially true because many of the bikes (Raleighs included) came poorly aligned and we often had to run the calipers off-center (canted either right or left).

Compared to MAFACs, we also thought the Weinmann lever fit most hands better, altho' we all recognized the weakness in the Weinmann lever clamp arrangement.
