Personally, I have no use for touring or cyclotouring bikes.

Even the most purpose built road racing bike is just fine with me for a 100 miler. The F1 race car analogy doesn't really apply to racing bicycles in my experience. At the end of my infatuation with all things car, the idea that a pure breed racing bicycle was "streetable" was very intoxicating to this gear head.
