My wife gave me a marvellous book for Christmas which I have just finished reading and which might be of interest to listers.

It´s called "Tour de France - Ein Erlebnisbericht von der Grande Boucle 1932" and is a re-issue of Kurt Stöpel´s diary of the 1932 Tour which he published in 1952. But, and that is why the book is so interesting, it now is 188p A4 format and adorned with numerous sizeable b/w photos of the 1932 TdF. Even if one is not very good at German, these snaps are worth the whole volume which is about 25 Euros, roughly 34 US-$.

Before I saw the book, I had never heard of it being re-issued, let alone of Covadonga, its publishers. You find me flabbergasted, as not only I am hugely interested in suchlike publications and was of the opinion that I would never miss any of them, but also as Covadonga are in Bielefeld, about 10 km from where I work. They have published quite a number of classic cycling related books which can be checked out on http://www.covadonga.de. As soon as the book shop opens on Monday I´m going to order the Rottiers one on the Flandriens, that´s for sure.

And now you could really make my day by telling me that you all have known about this for years.

Regards,

Toni "snooze-loose" Theilmeier, Belm, Germany.
