Subject: [CR]New ie question re avoiding paint/decal damage

Hi, newbie here, thanks to Chuck Schmidt and Peter Johnson for turning me on to this great group. Not sure where one's supposed to introduce oneself, so here's the tombstone stuff: born/raised Berkeley CA, mostly rode a Peugeot UO-8 in the early '70's, more recently a PX-10. Mostly day loops, toured a little in France. I recently was very generously given a '72 Schwinn Paramount and a '64(?) Carlton Flyer. I'd be very interested in learning from anyone knowledgeable about the Flyer; so far I've located Jerry Mortimer and Mike Jane, both sources of helpful Carlton info. Not all parts are original, and I'd like to work toward making it at least credibly period correct while keeping it rideable. May ask later if anyone has mechanically sound Campy pedals right for this bike.

OK so here's my first dumb question I couldn't find in the archives: What's the best way to mount a water bottle cage (or other clamp) without damaging the paint or decals? Would coating the clamp with the rubber tool-handle goop work? Wrap with some kind of tape? Better ideas?

Thanks guys, maybe see you in So Cal in October,
Reid Fisher
