The top Legnano model of the 1930s through the early 1950's was the Tipo Roma. When Ercole Baldini won the 1956 Olympic gold medal in the road race at the Melbourne Games, the model name was changed to Roma Olimpiade to commemorate his win. Jay Van De Velde Seal Beach,CA

Clearly the Mod. Roma Olympiade had to come at that time or later. Were Tipo Romas built before 1960, or are these two Legnanos entirely different modelos? My Mod. Roma Olypiade has no letter and number serial number on the seat tube as so many other Legnanos have. Instead, it has 255 on the bottom of the bottom bracket shell. Perhaps Mod. Roma Olympiades had a separate numbering system on the bottom bracket shell. Can anyone comment. This might be one small step in clarifying the obscurities of Legnano's S/N system.
